Spinach rice

Rice infused with the flavors and natural colors from spinach ,a delicious wholesome meal


Main ingredient

  • 1 bunch Spinach
  • 3 cups Basmati rice
  • 9 to 10 cloves Garlic
  • Garam masala (cardamom,cinnamon,cloves) grounded
  • Salt (as per taste)
  • 4 to 5 Green chillies


Preparing the rice

  1. Soak rice for half an hour
  2. Add the rice in boiling water and cook till it is long and white
  3. The rice should not be too soft
  4. Strain water from the rice

Preparing the palak

  1. Mean while boil palak in a skillet of water with a pinch of salt for 2 mins
  2. Strain the water and grind it smooth in the mixed  with garlic and green chillies
  3. Add a tbsp of ghee in the kadai
  4. Add 3 tbsp of oil
  5. Add garam masala powder  and bay leaves till a sweet smell evolves
  6. Then add the grounded palak mixture and sauté for 5 minutes
  7. Add salt
  8. Add rice and mix thoroughly over medium flame till the mixture is dry and  leaves the pan.
  9. Ensure that the rice does not become soggy
  10. Serve with curd raita
