Green paneer pulao recipe

This is a very quick recipe which you can make with leftover rice or fresh steamed rice. You need some greens and cottage cheese an excellent source of protein and it’s a vegetarian one pot meal. You can replace cottage cheese with tofu for a vegan version.

  • 1 cup rice or leftover cooked rice
  • 250 gm of cottage cheese cubed
  • A bunch of coriander leaves
  • 2 to 3 green chilies
  • 2 tbsp of ginger paste
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 to 3 cloves
  • 2 cardamom
  • 1 bay leaf
  • ¼ cup clarified butter or oil



  1. Boil the rice with salt till tender and fluffy. Don’t overcook.
  2. Grind coriander leaves, green chilies and ginger into a paste with some water.
  3. Grind the whole spices, cinnamon, cardamom and cloves coarsely in mortar and pestle.
  4. Heat clarified butter
  5. Fry the whole spices and bay leaf
  6. Add paneer pieces and fry till light brown.
  7. Add the green mixture and sauté.
  8. Add salt and sugar
  9. Mix the rice and sauté everything to nicely mix.
  10. Cook for 15 to 20 minutes stirring gently for the flavors to marry.
  11. Serve hot with raita or simply curd.
