I prepared these cute  little buns filled with homemade strawberry jam decorated with butter cream for the event #twitterbakealong where each baker has to bake according to a specific theme and share in the twitter handle with the specific hashtag. Devonshire’s split get their name from the county Devonshire in England where this is a popular breakfast dish

Ingredients

Dough

  • 4 cups refined flour
  • 25 gm yeast
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt

Strawberry jam

  • 100 gm strawberries
  • 1/2 cup sugar

Butter Cream

  • 100 gms of salted butter
  • 2 cups of powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 to 3 tbsp of condensed milk

Preparations

Buns

  • Warm milk
  • Dissolve 2 tbsp of sugar
  • Soak 25 gm of dried yeast for 10 to 15 minutes
  • The mixture will become frothy
  • Strain flour
  • Add melted butter and mix
  • Add the yeast mixture and mix well
  • Add a tsp of salt and knead together
  • Using an electric beater knead the dough for 5 minutes
  • Till the dough doesnt feel sticky any more.

Strawberry Jam

  • Chop the strawberries
  • Add sugar and strawberries in a pan and heat in a low flame.
  • Stir the mixture till it thickens
  • Pour the mixture into a glassjar and cool

Butter cream frosting

  • Soften the butter with a beater
  • Add the sugar and cream the mixture
  • Add condensed milk and whisk
  • till stiff peaks are formed

Assembling

  • make slunt cuts on the small buns
  • Fill jams inside
  • Fill an icing bag with the butter cream
  • Decorate with star nozzle
