American chopsuey recipe

Instant noodles deep fried crispy layered with soy based vegetarian gravy and topped with fried egg sunny side up . It is a fusion recipe invented by Chinese Americans in United states of America consists of crispy fried noodles soaked in soy based sweet and sour gravy.

 

Ingredients
Main ingredient

1.1 pack of egg noodles or instant noodles

Vegetables

  • 1/2 cup cabbage finely sliced
  • 1/4 cup carrots cut into strips
  • 1/2 cup corns
  • 1/2 cup purple cabbage
  • 1 capsicum cut into strips
  • 1 Red bell pepper cut into thin strips
  • 1 yellow bell pepper cut into strips

Sauce

  • 10 to 12 garlic cloves
  • 2 green chilies chopped
  • 1 spring onion finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp red chili sauce
  • 1 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tsp corn flour
  • 1/4 cup of water
  • 1/2 tsp vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp sugar

Garnish

  • 2 eggs

Preparation

Frying noodles

  • Boil the noodles and strain
  • Deep fry the noodles in oil till crispy
  • Fry in batches

Making sauce

  • Heat 2 tbsp oil
  • Fry garlic
  • Add vegetables and fry in high heat
  • Stir in the sauces
  • Add salt and sugar to taste
  • Dissolve corn flour in water and add
  • cook in low heat.

Assembling

  • Layer the fried noodles in a bowl
  • Pour the gravy on top
  • follow with another layer of fried noodles
  • Top with fried sunny side up eggs

    Haven’t had American Chopsuey in a very long time. Some dishes we just tend to forget till a blogger shares it. Indrani, now you’re tempting me to make it. With fried egg, its definitely filling.

    Our favorite and we tend to lean towards it when we go out. But never did it occur to me that making American chopsuey is so easy. Thanks Indrani I must try making this yum dish.
