Peas peel fritters | How to eat empty pea pods

Cooking with leftovers is a old and traditional method to unleash your creativity and give a unused food items a new delicious makeover to make them suitable or more palatable to the taste buds.

In the kitchens of West Bengal , there are many delicious dishes which are cooked with the vegetable peels and unused parts of the plant. SO we have vegetables made with potato peels, pumpkin peels, peels of bottle gourd and even the peels of green peas.

What does pea do for your body?

Green peas are rich in flavonoids, carotenoids and anti-oxidants and rich in proteins. They help reduce chances of chronic diseases like heart diseases, diabetes etc.

What can you do with empty pea pods?

The empty pea pods an be batter fried or cooked with spices to form a delicious curry and they can also be pureed to prepare delicious fresh soup.


Is pea good for weight loss?

Green peas are low in fat and high in protein content so they are filling without aiding wait gain.

Cleaning of pea peels or empty pea pods

The pod of the green peas after removing the peas contains a hard scale like covering on the inner side which needs to be removed for getting the sweet tender flesh which can be fried as fritter or added in any vegetables or soups.

Ingredients

  • 10 to12 pea pods peels
  • 1/2 cup rice flour
  • 2 tbsp. corn flour
  • 1/4 cup chickpea flour
  • Salt to taste

Preparations

  • Clean the pea peels
  • Make a batter of rice flour, corn flour and chickpea flour.
  • Heat oil in the pan
  • Dip the pea peels in the flour batter and deep fry.
