This is a traditional recipe from eastern part of  India to where I belong. In this recipe the vegetables specially potatoes, okra etc. are simmered in the poppy seeds paste. Poppy seeds are dried seeds of the poppy plant. They are rich in carbohydrates and are considered good source of energy. Poppy seeds soaked in water can be ground along with lime juice to form a smooth paste. It has anti carcinogenic properties and is used to treat breast cancer. These seeds are also rich in omega-3- fatty acids. Poppy seeds help to fight insomnia as it induces sleep and  also acts as a mild relaxant

  1. What a wonderful collection of Vegan Bengali dishes. I love the masala that is made using poppy seeds, sesame seeds and nuts. Adds so much flavour and creaminess without the cream. Must try the alu torkari.

  2. Superb collection Indrani dear though I am not much aware of Bangali cuisine but your Luchi tarkari recipe has taken me down to memory lane of my school days. My friend used to bring this in her tiffin and we all enjoyed along with began Bhaja. Will surely try this. Thanks for sharing.
