Hosted an Eurasian theme lunch popup at home yesterday . The objective was to cook at home and share food from the continent of Europe , some of the dishes are fusion of Asian and European culinary tradition prevalent in South East Asia. Some of the dishes I had cooked before and blogged. It was a warm table inspired by comforting dishes across Europe and Eurasia. Food meant to be shared, savoured and enjoyed slowly.

Starters

Bacon Puffs

Flaky puff pastry filled with smoky bacon and herbs.

These bacon puffs are delectable with homemade filo sheets , brushed with olive oil stacked one over another and filled with bacon and cheese.

Smørrebrød

Sour dough bread topped with creamy chicken aioli.

Smorrebrod
Danish sandwiches which are a staple in Danish cuisine can be enjoyed at any time of the day, be it a quick breakfast, brunch, a go-to snack, or a light dinner. The sandwich fills your belly and heart, while also looking appealing and tasting just as good as it looks.

These are signature open sandwiches from Denmark topped with homemade aioli ,mixed with roasted chicken marinated with spices. The bread was gluten free.

Tuna stuffed eggs

hard-boiled egg yolks with canned tuna, mayonnaise, mustard, and seasonings,

Devilled eggs which are a popular snacks in European countries like Spain and UK are prepared by piping boiled eggs with a mixture of canned tuna and mayonnaise

Main Table

Steamed Rice – Light and fragrant rice served alongside the mains.

Maultaschen

German dumplings filled with meat and spinach or cottage cheese and spinach.

These are kind of pasta ravioli from Germany stuffed with spinach and minced lamb served with meat broth in hotpot . According to local folklore, Cistercian monks at the Maulbronn Monastery invented the dish during the 17th century. By hiding the meat inside dough and greens, they could trick God into thinking they were not eating meat during the strict fasting of Lent.

Chicken paprikash

Chicken cooked in a rich paprika and tomato base sauce

This is originally a dish from Hungary cooked with Hungarian peppers to impart that distinct bright color, I prepared with red bell pepper based sauce enriched with heavy ceam and sour cream and topped with mashed potatoes.

Eurasian Meat Stew

A slow simmered communal pot of vegetables and tender meat in a rich aromatic broth.

Inspired from my blogger friend Azlin Bloor this recipe is inspired from her family recipe “Eurasian Beef Smore“, this dish is cooked with mutton ( Goat meat) with whole spices , vegetables marinated in light soy sauce , dark spoy sauce , sugar and vinegar

  • Focaccia Pepperoni Pizza – Italian focaccia topped with salsa pepperoni and melted cheese.

I had this pizza on the streets of Madrid, foccacia made at home topped with homemade tomato sauce and pepperoni.

Sides

  • Mashed Potatoes – Creamy buttered potatoes, smooth and comforting.
  • House Condiments – Mayonnaise with chopped cucumber ,mint , green chilies and parseley

Dessert

  • Apple Cinnamon Pie – Warm spiced apples baked in a flaky crust.
