Black-eyed peas are among the low-calorie food items, which makes them a nutritious accessory for a weight-loss diet plan.
Ingredients
1.Lobia or black eyed peas 200 gms
2.Tomatoes 3 to 4
3.Basil leaves a bunch
4.Ginger ,garlic paste 1tbsp
5.Cumin powder 1/2 tbsp
6.Red chilly powder 1tbsp
7.Salt to taste
8.Green chilies 2 chopped
9.Onions (2 finely chopped)
Preparation
1.The peas should be soaked in water for about 4 to 5 hours
2.Boil the peas with 2cups of water and salt in a pressure cooker till 1 whistle
3.Make a cross mark on the skin of the tomatoes
4.Boil the tomatoes in water for 2 to 3 minutes.
5.Plunge the tomatoes in cold water.You can see the skin peeling off near the cross mark you had made earlier
6.Peel the tomatoes and cut them and wash to remove seeds as well.
7.Blend them in the blender to form a smooth paste.
8.Heat a wok and add cumin powder and red chilly powder into it.
9.Heat it till it is roasted properly but not burnt.
10.Add ginger garlic paste and saute
11.Add the tomato puree.
12.Add the basil leaves and cook for 5 minutes till the mixture thicken and the sauce darkens in color.
13.Add the peas and saute.Cover to preserve and lock the flavor.
14.Add chopped green chilies and cook for more 5 minutes
15.Add chopped onions before serving.
It can be a one pot meal or can be served with any flat bread or rice.
