Rice

DAL KHICHDI


I became a fan of this recipe at once when I had this in College canteen.Its favourite among the students.We make khichdi at home which is made by cooking rice in dal but this seemed different.The dish is not very dry and does not need any accompaniment and its a filler and full of health.So check out this vegetarian recipe which is one of my favourites and give me your valuable feedbacks.

Ingredients

1.Basmati Rice one and half cup
2.Toor dal(yellow lentil) and Masoor dal(red lentil)(1/2 +1 cup)
3.Onions chopped 1 cup
4.Garlic (7 to 8 finely chopped)
5.Ginger 1/2 inch(cut into juliens)
6.Green chilies(4 to 5 chopped)
7.Mustard seed 1/2 tsp
8.Curry leaves(6 to 7)
9.Whole jeera(1 tsp)
10 Asefoedita(hing) (1/2 tsp)
11.Chopped tomatoes (1)
12 Lemon juice(1/2 lemon)
13.1/2 tsp turmeric powder
14.1 tbsp kashmiri chilli powder
15.Oil 2 tbsp
16.Ghee 1/4 th cup

preparation of rice

1.Soak rice in water
2.Add the rice in boiling water.
3.once it is cooked ,drain the water and keep aside.

Preparation of Dal

1.Boil dal in a cooker with salt and turmeric powder.
2.In a kadai add oil.Add jeera and hing.
3.Add 1/2 cup chopped onions,fry till transparent
4.Add Ginger
5.add chilli powder.
6.Add the rice.
7.If the mixture becomes too dry add water.
9.cook for 5 minutes covered till the rice becomes well integrated with dal.
10.Add chopped green chillies
11.Take it off from the gas and prepare the seasoning.

Seasoning

1.Add ghee in the kadai
2.add mustard seeds till it splutter.add curry leaves
3.add garlic
4.add red chillies whole
5.add the remaining chopped onions.
6.Let it fry for few seconds and add the seasoning in the rice dal mixture.
7.sprinkle lemon juice
8.Decorate with coriander leaves and serve with pickle and fries.
