Stuffed whole peas Paratha[Flat Indian bread stuffed with green peas]

Green Peas are among the most easily digestible beans, and are thus an important source of protein for vegetarians. It is rich in carotenoids and in antioxidants. It has healing properties also. In winter  tender fresh peas are available in abundance and you can use them in variety of ways .Preparing a recipe with green peas is also enjoyable for me as I involve my daughter in shelling them. This recipe prepares 4 to 5 stuffed Indian bread which you can enjoy with fresh curd or any dips of your choice. In case ajwain is not available you can use thyme which also smells the same as both contains thymol.

 

 

Ingredients

1.Whole wheat flour or refined flour(2 cups)
2.Oil(1/3rd cup)[for dough]3.Salt as per taste.
4.Whole Cumin (2 tbsp) dry roasted
5.Ajwain or  Carom seeds(1 tbsp)
6.Red chilly flakes(2 tbsp)
7.Green peas (1 and 1/2 cup) boiled
8.Cheese grated (1/2 cup)[optional]9.Oil or butter or ghee 3 to 4 tbsp[for frying]

 

 


Preparation

1.Mix Flour with water ,salt and oil to form a tight dough.
2.Make small balls from the dough
3.Make the filling with boiled peas,roasted cumin,ajwain ,chilly flakes and cheese by mashing the contents with hand.
4.Roll the ball of flour into a flat circle.
5.Keep about 2 tbsp of filling at the center and close the dough to form a small ball.
6.Flatten the ball with your palm and allow it to rest for 5 minutes(This is very important)
7.Roll the ball into a round flat bread.
8.Heat the pan and place the bread or paratha on the pan.
9.When the paratha is cooked on one side,flip the paratha.
10.When both the sides are semi cooked ,add 1 tbsp of oil and fry both the sides for few seconds on high flame.
11.Serve with ketchup or fresh curd .
